Stephen Zeigler’s document of the event that has taken place every 4th of July since 1974. The Hermosa Ironman is an endurance race where locals from Los Angeles’ South Bay run a mile on the beach, paddle a surfboard a mile, then chug a six pack of beer. The first to complete this ritual without vomiting is crowned that years Ironman/Ironwoman. The photos were taken in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, not long before the eventual commercialisation and infiltration of the masses.
