This is Deborah Turbeville's first book Maquillage.
Published in 1975 in an edition of 1,000 of which 300 were signed and numbered by Turbeville. It's scarcity is only matched by its quality. It is one of the most wonderful books we have ever seen.
Although titled Maquillage
, the make-up connection is not exactly literal. In fact the book shows a particular regard for shoes...
Turbeville's second book Wallflower
is a classic and the Japanese published Les Amoureuses du Temps Passe
is an IDEA Books favourite. Maquillage
shows that the aesthetic; the deliberate, brilliant obfuscation was all there in her first book. Just look.
