This is the cover of Isolated Heroes
the fashion photobook by Raf Simons and David Sims published in 1999 based on their collaborative work together in the summer of that year.
Simons and Sims sidestepped established male models and cast from the streets of Antwerp. The styling and, more than anything, the haircuts, redefined menswear as a direct product of street culture.
Not only is this the only copy currently offered for sale anywhere on or offline but it is also signed by Raf Simons - now, of course, the newly appointed Artistic Director of Dior. See it all here.
It's an inspired book: one part Berlin and two parts Bluewater. Simons grew up on Joy Division and Kraftwerk and their stylistic legacy is obvious but Isolated Heroes
is more than the sum of its influences. It is what it is. Unique.
