Annual Report

THE IDEA ANNUAL REPORT IS A REINVENTION OF THE WHOLE IDEA OF AN ANNUAL REPORT. THIS 2007 FISCHLI / WEISS SUPERBOOK IS NOTHING LESS THAN AN ADVERT FOR LIFE AS WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IT.

THE IDEA ANNUAL REPORT IS A REINVENTION OF THE WHOLE IDEA OF AN ANNUAL REPORT. THIS 2007 FISCHLI / WEISS SUPERBOOK IS NOTHING LESS THAN AN ADVERT FOR LIFE AS WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IT.

All quiet on the outside. Since 1997 the German art publisher Ringier have enlived their end of year financial round up by commissioning artists to design the publications. 2007 was the year of Swiss double act Fischli/Weiss - aka long standing IDEA contemporary art favourites. It's the best annual report ever!

With zero reference to the facts and figures, diagrams and demographics that precede their pages, Fischli / Weiss appropriated 800 single page magazine advertisements and paired them up in themes of colour, mood, appeal and aspiration! The result is either hugely satisfying or like a week spent in the waiting room of a private dental practice (choose your own response!).

Life is... an advert for Killer Sudoku or a James Bond endorsement for Ultra Strong Haarspray. The answer... is both... a longing for both!

Another cat - which is by no means a theme - but we did love this pairing of the subject in repose. One with a seventeen seat sofa to enjoy, the other with a turned out tin of Miamor and what looks like a lettuce leaf. Cats love side salads, obviously!

Cushions are comforting. That may be our only comment on this particular double page! You can see more of the book on this super entertaining link. The full experience of all 400 double page pairings will be the personal pleasure of whomever buys it. Take care though, like a 'death by chocolate' cake or a Police Academy all-nighter, the chance of sensory overdose is running very high. Just try to to consume the whole of western consumerism in one sitting!

THE MILLENNIUM. IT CAME AND IT WENT. NO BIG DEAL. BUT LOOK AGAIN. BETWEEN F/W 1999 AND S/S 2000, THE FIRST TWO ISSUES OF MADE IN USA WERE PUBLISHED. HISTORY IN THE REMAKING.

At that very moment. The best magazine in the world. Published by Bernadette Van-Huy's Bernadette Corporation with contributors including Rita Ackermann, Dike Blair, Marcelo Krasilcic, Olivier Zahm, Jack Pierson and Mark Borthwick, Made in USA is one of the most cherished magazines of any time.

Photographed and styled by Katja Rahlwes. Suit and shoes in this double page are all Margiela. Made In USA appears to be an effortless endeavour. The advertising pages are all empty white pages with the advertiser's name in black text - no frills. Everything visual is editorial.

It is very good. Do we need to say more than that? The pages above and below are evidence of that. There is more to be seen on these links. First issue and Second issue. As we said, best magazine in the world!

Bernadette Corporation were of course the subject of a major exhibition at the ICA just eighteen months ago. We wish we had had these issues then but we didn't on the account of the fact that they are so amazingly scarce. But we have one copy of each NOW. So take your chance and click below.
