Village Voice View

THE VILLAGE VOICE ONLY PUBLISHED THREE ISSUES OF ITS FASHION SUPPLEMENT VUE AND THIS ISN'T EVEN THAT. THIS IS THE PREVIEW ISSUE TITLED VIEW. PAGE BY PAGE IT REALLY IS THE MOST EXTRAORDINARY FASHION MAGAZINE.

This is View. The 1985 not for sale preview issue of the Village Voice's short-lived fashion magazine Vue (there must have been a legal problem over ' View ', it also being the title of New York published surrealist art magazine of the 1940's). To say it is scarce is an understatement. It is absolutely, completely and utterly unfindable!

A Larry Fink story titled Paradium: Dressed to Club. Literally every page is on fire! We photographed all of it!

It is the Nan Goldin pictures that make this pre-issue world class. This anti-model friend of Nan's is sitting on a toilet in a room with creeping mould. In 1985!

Wow! The cover promised 'Fashion High & Low' and it delivers beyond any reasonable expectation. Nan Goldin photographed her friends for a lingerie story set in the Russian Baths. A single glance at the image above is enough to know that this shoot is way ahead of its time. It's 1990s grunge bang in the middle of the 1980s.

Richard Corman shot this shoe story and made it completely brilliant by adding dogs to the sidewalk catwalk.

And as a final bonus the issue offers a pattern for this 3 Fold Bag on its last page.
